Connected Minds: Dynamic Interactions in Cognitive, Social, and Artificial Systems

The 21st Conference of the Italian Association of Cognitive Sciences (AISC) will focus on the role of dynamic interactions in explaining the functioning of complex systems such as brains, communities, networks, and artificial agents. The theoretical and experimental study of dynamic interactions is increasingly illuminating how brains work, how communities behave, and how artificial systems process information. We welcome presentations on the state-of-the-art and ongoing research regarding the multifaceted nature of dynamic interactions in cognitive, social, and artificial systems. We particularly encourage submissions that foster interdisciplinary dialogue among the various subdisciplines of cognitive science, encompassing both theoretical and experimental perspectives.

Confirmed keynote speakers

  • Claudia Mazzuca (Università degli Studi “La Sapienza”, Roma), winner of the AISC Young Researcher Prize 2024
  • Hugo Mercier (CNRS, Institut Jean Nicod, Paris)
  • Luiz Pessoa (University of Maryland)

Call for papers, posters, and symposia

We cordially invite researchers to submit papers, poster, or symposia proposals through: https://forms.gle/uufxvsxR777g65Ct8

Paper and poster submissions require a short abstract of no more than 100 words (to be directly added to the submission page) and a long one of no more than 500 words (bibliography excluded, to be uploaded as a PDF file). Paper presentations are allocated 20-minute sessions (followed by a 5-minute Q&A). Poster presentations will have a dedicated session.

Paper and poster submissions should be fully anonymized.

Symposia submissions require a short description of no more than 100 words (to be directly added to the submission page) and a detailed one of no more than 2000 words (bibliography excluded, to be uploaded as a PDF file) that should include:

  • a description of the proposed symposium and of the individual papers (3 to 5 abstracts) of no more than 2000 words overall, submitted by the symposium organizer;
  • a list of the participants and their affiliations.

Each symposium is allocated a 1-hour and 45-minute slot, managed by the symposium organizer. A symposium should ideally consist of 4 talks, with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5.

All submissions should be in English.

Important: Each participant can appear as a speaker only once in the conference program, but can appear multiple times as a co-author. If submitting multiple proposals, each must have a different speaker. For symposium submissions, only the symposium organizer should submit the application on behalf of all speakers. If the symposium is accepted, each speaker must register and pay the AISC membership fee individually.

Grants and Prizes

AISC Student Travel Grants

Three Student Travel Grants (up to 250 euros each, plus the 2025 AISC membership fee) are available to support the attendance of AISC student members at the conference. Undergraduate and graduate students who plan to attend the conference can apply for travel support. Any student whose paper is accepted for presentation is eligible. Awardees will be selected based on submission quality as a result of the reviewers’ scores (in case of equal judgment, the younger candidate will have precedence). After acceptance, selected authors will be contacted by the AISC Conference Awards Chairs. Student authors who want to be considered for the grant as part of the submission process can email: aisc2025@imtlucca.it

Vittorio Girotto Prize: Best Paper AISC

The best accepted works are eligible for the Best Paper AISC prize, established in memory of Vittorio Girotto. Authors of selected contributions accepted at the conference will receive an invitation to submit an extended version of their works to the journal “Sistemi Intelligenti”. The Editorial Board of “Sistemi Intelligenti” will evaluate the contributions and determine the winning paper. The prize consists of a €1,000 award, the publication with special mention in “Sistemi Intelligenti”, and a €300 book voucher from the journal’s publisher, Il Mulino. Other finalist papers will be mentioned in the journal and might be published there as well if deemed of adequate scientific value by the Editorial Board.

Maria Miceli Prize

The best accepted works on topics involving the psychology of emotions, social interaction, anticipation, and values are eligible for the Marica De Vincenzi Foundation’s Maria Miceli Prize. The prize consists of a €1,000 award, as well as the publication of the winning work in the journal “Sistemi Intelligenti.” The prize is open to any work presented at AISC or AIP conferences that addresses the themes of Maria Miceli’s research, for whom the prize is named. The AISC executive board and the conference organizing committee will select the AISC nominees, who must then submit full papers, following deadlines and formats that will be published on the AISC website.

Registration

As in previous editions, being a member of the Italian Association for Cognitive Science (AISC) for 2025 is mandatory to attend the conference. No conference registration fee is required: participation in the AISC 2025 conference is free of charge for all AISC members with a valid membership.

Those who have not yet paid the 2025 AISC membership fee can register by following the instructions at the following page: https://www.associazione-scienze-cognitive.it
